I'm from TX too so the whole basement thing was strange for me too. There are different types of basements...some are totally under the house so from the outside it looks like a normal house, others like mine, are called "walk out" basements and from the outside on the back half of the house, it looks like a 3 story house. Bascially it is like building the house into a hill. Hope that helps!! :D
