I liked it with the white sashing, but agree this looks even better. I have found I'm usually happier with my outcomes when I listen to the board's advice. I'm delighted you are happy with you quilt.

It's just beautiful. That white and the cornerstones really set off the blocks. Thanks for the heads up on the flange. Never done one. I don't like things that are a pain! I have enough other problems!

The colors make it look so warm and comfy. Can't wait to see how you quilt it. I really like the orange flange and hadn't thought of doing something that. I give this one 2 thumbs up!!

There's a good blog tutorial on how to do a flange (Google "flange on a quilt") and she makes it look easy. I cut mine, as she said she (sometimes) did, at 3/4", folded and pressed it, and sewed it to the first (white) border with a basting stitch. So far, so good. But getting the brown border on so that the same amount of flange showed all the way around turned out not to be easy......at least for me. No matter how straight I kept my stitch, there appeared, in places, a fluctuation in the width of the flange....and any unevenness of that bright orange against the white showed! I did a lot of ripping. It's still not perfect but good enough, I decided. I might try a flange again but only on a smaller quilt, and I would cut my flange strip wider than 3/4".

Thanks to everyone who commented on and complimented this quilt top! It's ironic how "big" it got, both in size and in extra effort and fabric bought, because I really began it to use up those little brown and tan HSTs that I had made from triangle scraps left from my Attic Window dogs quilt! Like Topsy, it just grew! Another experiment, which is how I've learned all my quiltmaking. I don't even particularly like brown, including the mottled brown fabric in this quilt, which I had to go searching for in order to finish the thing! But I'm fairly happy with the way it turned out.
