Went to WalMart today. All they had was polyester rope, no cotton. Would polyester work or should I keep looking for cotton?

About how many yards of rope went into your basket? The fabric department had a small bag of Wrights 3/16 cotton rope, 40 yards for $3.97. Wasn't sure if it was long enough so didn't get that either. Thought it a bit expensive.

I have a question...is that Carol Ann the "Quilting by the Mile" Carol Ann? If so, we were best friends in high school (Memphis) and later. Reason I ask, is my friend Carol Ann makes gorgeous baskets too. We just got reconnected 6-8 months ago after YEARS of not seeing each other.

    Thanks, Ramona in Mobile
No, different Carol Ann. But I bet she's every bit as talented! This Carol Ann can do anything she puts her mind to. Her motto is "Whatever it takes!" and she means it!

Anna, that is beautiful! I love your colors in it, it looks great. You did a superb job on your first one!

I'd keep looking for the cotton. The brand I got at Wal-Mart is called "SecureLine" by Lehigh. It's cotton clothesline, poly reinfoced, 100' x 3/16".

I used about 3/4 of the package, so my bowl has about 75' of rope in it. You could probably almost do 2 bowls with that 40 yards, since that would be 120 feet.

Beautiful fabtric bowls. I've made a few and found them to be fun to make and they look really neat when used for bread or cracker baskets and my friend who received one I made uses hers for her tea bags on the kitchen table. It looks so pretty....so does yours.

Hmmm....my Carol Ann is also in Arkansas and I just read her latest blog entry in which she said her #1 Motto is "Whatever it Takes!"...are you SURE it's not the same Carol Ann? Her blogspot is quiltbythemile.blogspot so you can check it out.

    Thanks again, Ramona in Mobile

PS your tutorial is extremely well done! I might try it now!
