First, thank you all! I am planning on making my son a Mariner's Compass quilt. Second.............. problems..........not a one! Just kidding! I'm posting a pic of the first section I did...... not enough fabric on one of the colors........ result, a hole in the section. I guess a couple of not really problems, just learning curves. One was learning to pp, sewing backwards really. The second was making sure the fabric was large enough to cover the area correctly. Once I figured that out it was a breeze! I used Brenda Henning's - Reach for the Stars and her Triangulations 2.0. It really made making the small hts easy and the points nice. Once I got the hang of it, it was really fun watching it all come together. Another thing is the blocks are big so making a quilt would be rather quick!

Learning curve one in Mariner's Compass!

Thanks for the heads up on possible problems! I DO pp, but have not tried a Mariners Compass yet. Just got Carol Doak's book, and haven't finished drooling yet!

Thank you Angie for the possible problems, not quite sure what PP stands for , but I get the gist.

pp is paperpiecing the technique used to get those perfect points.

Very pretty. I am impressed. I love the Mariners Compass pattern. Maybe someday I'll get up the nerve to try one too.
