Default First Quilt attempt: Zipper pouch & miniquilt

I've been a long-time admirer of quilted projects, but I haven't attempted any up until now!

I needed a bigger zippered pencil case for all my colored pencils, and this beats using a ziplock bag.
    Here's a tutorial for a boxed corner pouch: http://thermoweb.com/blog/heatnbond-...ouch-tutorial/

I made mine about the size of a 1 gallon ziplock, with some of my very precious Hawaiian prints I purchased in Waikiki for a wonky log cabin variation. I freemotioned my twitter username on it, because I'm a geek, and I added a tiny bit of fake fur because working with fur is what I normally do when sewing. There's some pencil slots on the inside for pencils I want to be able to easily grab and a small pocket for the bits of pencils that have been sharpened to mere stubs.
I've never quilted any of my sewing before so it was hard to get started. I pretty much just used images online of quilted tops via Pinterest and google for different stitch patterns.

I also made up a 'mini quilt' nametag with my nickname for a small geek convention I went to. I found a neat arrow quilt pattern and tried my own interpretation of it. I regret not using any interfacing on the fabric I embroidered, but version two will be better!

Thanks for looking! I have yet to really get into quilting but I consider myself a bit of an appreciative lurker. I'm working up the courage to go to my local Modern Quilting guild meets, and maybe making something larger than a quilt square someday. :)
