I didn't get the stitch regulator due to cost (it was about $3,000 more), but I like it just like it is. The machine moves so fluidly that it's really easy to maintain a uniform looking stitch.

My set up is quite a bit smaller than yours, but I have discovered, as you have, I could do more consistent work by turning my regulator very slow ... the alternative on my set up is to hold down a button ... in my mind, the regulator has proved itself to be about having to go with a button or just let the machine get the needle up and down ... (you may remember that I am basically using a big home sewing machine on a quilting frame - - still better than pulling the queen sized quilts through that table model <g>) ...
can't hardly compare the two systems as far as what can be done in a single pass, but the principle is the same. <wave>
