Thanks so much everyone! Love your comments! Someone PMed me for instructions on the Linked 9P so I'm posting here in case others would like it too:

cut 3.5" squares of prints and black fabrics
cut 9.25" squares of prints that are contained in your 9P's

    fin. block size: 8.5"
    # of blocks: 18
    fin. quilt top: 48.5" x 65.5"
finish off with borders as you desire

    1) Make a 9P of 5 black squares with 4 prints of different colors.
    2) Working in a vertical fashion, sew the 9.25" squares to the top and bottom of the 9P according to their prints used in the 9P.
    3) Decide the colors for your next 4P and add it to your vertical strip. Continue this routine until you have 7 blocks joined.
    4) Repeat steps 1-3 until you have 5 vertical panels all completely sewn according to the fabrics used in the 9P's that are to the right and left of the 9P blocks.
    5) Refer to the pic for the finishing strips added to the right and left of the quilt top. Next you will be adding the strips to the top and bottom of your quilt top plus an additional 4 squares of different prints for your 4 corners.

Tips: For best results, alternate the blocks of your large scale prints with blocks of small scale prints. You will want to avoid putting 2 blocks of large scale prints together!

Since I didn't preplan colors, choosing a dark shade and alternating it with a light shade is easy to do while making the vertical strips. For example, when you make your first 9P and decide the 4 colors of your adjoining blocks, you might want to alternate darks and lights -- a bright orange, and then a pale aqua.

As always, cool colors and warm colors in a quilt make an exciting quilt! I just counted and found that I used 9 warm colors and 8 cool ones. I never preplanned; it just turned out that way. Shades of colors always help to intensify the overall effect. Have fun making a linked 9P! Be sure and post your creation for all to enjoy!

JFYI, I have no idea the name of this block or if there is a name. I have done other blocks in a similar way and thought it would be great to do a 9P this way. My first pattern I did was a Wonky Star where all were connected to the top, bottom and sides of each block so a 9P works the same way or you could do any block that way actually.

Also, you could work on this quilt in a horizontal fashion as well or make all your 9.25" squares first, lay them all out in the order you want and fill in with the 9P's!

Either way, I hope it turns out great for you and we'll look forward to seeing your quilt one day! Thanks for your interest in my quilt! n2
