    Default Forces United

Hi Quilters! Two ladies in my sewing group picked us some fat quarters and two panels in kits. The panels were 9 pictures that seemed to need cutting apart. Lady number one made hers but wasn’t too happy with what she had done. Lady number two didn’t wanna try so it was passed to me along with a picture sq from #1 that she didn’t use. Anyway, I saw a child’s quilt that was a large print or picture square with an alternate large 4 Patch. The blocks were 10.5 in the pattern but I wanted 12.5. My picture blocks were 10.5 so I had to frame it with the narrow blue and cut my 4p sqs 6.5 instead of the 5.5 in the pattern. I started laying it out and thought it lacked ‘something’. Laying in bed I thought, I’d make a big star in the center out of some of the fat quarters. I had to piece the corner square in the background of the Star as I only had one fat quarter that color. I don’t think it is noticeable though. Anyway, I am more pleased since adding the Star. I also wanted to insert red bc sure was a lot of blues.
This will go to a veteran. I have an Air Force vet on my list that may get it, although it has ships for Navy, tanks for Army, etc That is why I’m calling this quilt Forces United.

Beautiful! Congrats on a great finish. No matter which branch the veteran served in, I know he will love this quilt. You are right, the star is a perfect addition. I often get my best ideas while lying in bed. Too bad I don't always remember them when I get up!

Toogie, you make some of the cutest quilts and give me so many ideas. This is just another example of your knowledge on how to use the fabrics you have to create very pleasing quilts. One day, I hope to have your vision.

Wonderful quilt, Toogie! While you lie in bed getting good ideas do you ever sleep? You are such a prolific quilter!

This went really fast bc of the blocks. I just had to frame the printed pictures and the larger 4 patches were cut 6.5. I didn’t decide until after supper Sunday night to cut this, so by Monday night it was done. Yes I did sleep because I keep 3 kids on Mondays for my daughter, one being special needs. However, yesterday I didn’t keep them so I got to sew all day. The longest time was trying to decide what it needed in the center. Thank you for your comment and looking at my quilts.

Forces United is a great name for your quilt! Your center star block made the quilt extra special for the veteran who receives your work of art (heart)! Thanks toogie for sharing your quilts to inspire us!

You really do have a gift for visualizing the best placements of fabrics and blocks to create a balanced beautiful quilt. Another great finish!
