These are beautiful quilts - treasures as you state. Love the color combinations. Be very careful cleaning. I ruined a blue and white vintage quilt. I had balls of lint, batting, and cotton threads after my cleaning. I learned what not to do. (I haven't tackled cleaning any vintage quilts since.)

WOW. If they didn't think that these were good enough to use, I would love to have seen the ones they did use. Good luck on the cleaning of them. Thanks for sharing . BrendaK

It is interesting that I came across this thread today.
    My Mother recently passed.
Her machine and a bin marked QUILTS came to me from under her many boxes.
I opened the box and cried all day.
    Nothing is salvageable.
Projects started, some tops almost finished, lengths of fabric 36"wide.
I remember hearing, several generations ago men of the family quilted too.
This is effort and creation of generations back was never given to us.

Bring your treasures out of dark storage and share them with someone.
Or they will just wind up on Goodwill shelves when the boxes are finally dealt with.

I inherited a family quilt that has the same red, tan & white colors. My mother said that the tan had originally been bright green, but that it had faded when they were in a gas-heated home. There was even a tiny bright green repair. (It is still there!) It was made in 1897 for my grandparents' marriage. Machine pieced, hand quilted.

What a great find! I honestly would love to create a quilting time capsule at some point just so I could have the nostalgic feeling. They are all very beautiful!

I am so sorry!! I truly understand the loss you feel. This is exactly why I have posted the pics here!! I know who made these and I know about when. Just couldn't name the blocks. I called George this morning and told him about all the views and comments. He almost cried. He said "I have more quilts!! You can take pictures of them too!"
