What a story!!! I sure hope you can locate some of the family.... This could be an amazing story for that guy on the evening news that does such a fantastic program on topics like this.. wish I could remeber his name, but I think it is on CBS nightly ... hedid come on right after Katie Corik .. sp... He might even help you locate the family... worth a try!!! :-)

Yes, I smiled to when I read this... then read it out loud to my husband... My DMIL name was Ruth too... I inherited her Singer, and am blessed to have it... named it Ruth too.... And I have a picture of her... right above my side on the wall....think of here every time I sit down to sew... ;)

That is exactly the machine I learned to sew with, about 1967-69
    My mom still has it

Amazing the bits of history that can be found! Maybe you can locate the family, that would be so nice.

Great machine too, lucky find and a wonderful price.

oh my goodness...being a mom who lost her son in Iraq and my father in Vietnam I can't help but cry when I read your post....like the rest I would be trying to track the family down just to share with them your find and let them know that is was so important to mom she kept it in her most sacred place...her sewing machine cabinet...I keep some things in my sewing room for those moments I need to know my son is close by...strange to those who have never been in that sad place but true...thank you for sharing your story with us today...as we approach the 4th of July and the knowledge that our independance came at a price even today....blessings

This is the first thought that came to mind when I read about your "new Machine". Let us know what you find out.
