If you cannot reach the foot pedal anymore, put it on a sturdy box or something else high and big enough to accomodate both the pedal and your foot.

You are a problem solver. I try to keep a piece of shelf liner under my foot to keep it from sliding.

What an absolutely marvelous idea. I'm going to give this a try as I find FMQ awkward.

Forgot to add, thank you very very much for sharing this wonderful idea with all of us.

Funny how it sometimes takes someone else's question to make you realize you've already got the answer to your frustrations. =)
    Here, here. Well said

(Kenmore Elite, all I could afford then and can not afford a new one).Am trying to hand quilt one. But do you think that I could FMG on the other one with the machine turned? And how do you machine piece with the machine turned and get the seams straight? H ave never quilted before and have never seen it done or even seen a long-arm machine. :?
I have a Kenmore Elite, it's my primary sewing machine. I do all my FMQ on my Elite. I have one of those large plastic tables that you can put next to the machine and I use a teflon slider. I'm pretty excited about this setup though, going to copy and paste important info onto Word and give to hubby, maybe we'll go shopping today! I have a table that is not in use that I think would be perfect for this!

If you have one of those custom plastic extension tables, and the opening is not wide enough to fit around your new machine, you can "shave" off the plastic to make it fit. I ordered a large table for my Brother VX-970, then upgraded to a Kenmore Elite and the table didn't fit. My DH made the opening wider, it's not perfect but it's stable and I've never had a problem using it.
