the std is pretty but the feathers made it stunning I wouldn;t have had the courage to practise on an existing peice

WOW that must be a real good book. How long have you been fmq. I love the feathers, but have been afraid to give them a try. I'll look that book up.

All I have is a regular sewing machine that's about 30 years old. Mine doesn't have any stitch regulators like many of the newer machines have now. I do think you should practice drawing on paper first, to get your brain wrapped around the motions you need to make, before fmq. Just drop your feed dogs and go on a practice sandwich first before fmq on a quilt top.

Dkm and Shorebird - only recently done some fmq in borders which isn't meander or stipple. But I have done alot on
practice sandwiches, and I am always "doodling" on paper. There's another bit I did on page 5. I do feel quite relaxed doing it this way, which is how it should be I suppose.
