Truly a labor of love. Of course, you should be proud of yourself. It is outstanding. And I like the back side better, too.
I hope your friend is suitably impressed.

You did a spectacular job. I cant imagine so many precuts that you could make so many quilts and backs. This is a project / gift that you and her family will remember and treasure for a lifetime. How you did this, I'll never know.....I'll just classify you as a "master craftsman", and admire you from afar!

Like others, I can't imagine the work it took to transform this into the spectacular quilts you made. I would still be scratching my head trying to figure out a pattern to use the odd shaped pieces. You are quite the artist and designer, not to mention a fabulous friend. I, too, hope the original maker can appreciate the fact that her quilt has finally been completed, even though it may not be exactly as she visioned. I hope the family will treat it as an heirloom.

I think what you decided (take it apart and start over) was the right decision. What you produced is really pretty - and unusual! I love the border on the front. I looks pretty straightforward but the effect looks far more complicated… Great job on all three quilts. I love the colors and design, and especially the back, like you do.
