I used stitch-in-the-ditch on them. I trying to work up the courage to try some free-motion quilting. I need to make myself practice on some scraps and see what I think of it.

Something that wasn't immediately apparent to me when I first started piecing the columns was that it's important to have a set of "left" columns and "right" columns - they have to be interleaved with each other because the left points will align to the points on the right columns, and vice versa. So all of the columns aren't simply created the same. The only difference between them, however, is whether you start with a light piece on the left or the column or a dark piece on the right of the column. You could, I suppose, make all columns identical and always start with say a light on the left, but then you would have more waste at the end when you align the points and trim the edges.

Your quilt is gorgeous. I have never been as tempted to make a braid quilt as much as I am now. Is there a link to an EASY pattern? I've looked online, but haven't come up with a pattern. I DID learn what a layer cake is. I think I understand about the cutting, but when you say about the "left" and "right" pieces, I'm floored. :? I know that girl is proud of her new quilt.
