THanks so much for the advice everyone!!
Ninnie - at the risk of sounding really dumb, what is straight line cross hatching??
I don't know the measurements of your quilt, but say the blocks are 6", then you can divide it into 4 2"areas measure in 2' and go straight across on all the blocks in each direction and then do the same in the other direction. It looks like a big x and o board, but is so cute with all the little quilted squares
When you get to your fancy cut middles, you could do 1'4 in around them in the inside and they would stand out more. the cross hatching would not have to go through them, just pick it up again on the other side of them. I don't know if this makes sense or not! :D

love the fabric, I have some in black, also love the quilt. I would make an owl template almost as big as the colored square, hand quilt that in eack block and also outline the fussycut owl ineach square. I would do a small owl outline in each corner and do some long wavely vines with leaves in the borders.

You could outline the owls and fill in the rest with nighttime things like stars and moons, comets and such. It is so cute!

That is too cute!! I have never seen owl fabric I don't think. I have no idea about the quilting. Can't wait to see it finished. Ooops, did I say the F word?

How cute is that quilt of yours? :D I
really like the owls, too. I can see a
little hand stitching around the owls to
make them stand out. Whatever you
do, it is going to look wonderful!!
    :D :D :D :D :D :D

Really cute fabric. I've never seen anything like it. Really cute quilt also, great job. Your friend will love it, whichever way you do the quilting.

I like quilting shapes and whatnot in to fun quilts like that - in the non owl areas you could quilt in puffy letters that say hoo hoo or owl eyes and beaks and whatnot.
No matter what you do it will be well loved.
I would almost leave the owl squares plain though - just in the ditch around them so they pop :)

oooh! i like that idea. concentric squares around each owl picture. and nothing on the owls themselves. that would really make them puff out.
