    What a beautiful find.
Hard to believe that someone would care so little about a loved one's work and not want to keep it.
Luckily you came along to love it, enjoy.

What a beautiful quilt. Yesterday, I was at one of my co-workers house and she have a lot of hand quilted pieces like this that her grandmother had started. It is very old from the looks. Any suggestion on how to finish it is welcome. How do you remove the brown stains from the fabric? Please pm me. Thanks in advance.

I've been thinking on how to finish this. A lot of the yellow fabric on the outside edges are fraying. My first thoughts were to cringe, then square all the sides & put a border on the quilt. But DH came up with a surprisingly good idea. Put a border on it, but instead of squaring the sides first & sewing them to the border, applique them onto the border and let the border be squared off.
The more I think about it, the better I like it. I would use steam a seam and let it take care of the frayed edges. I would go back and do some kind of decorative stitch over the last edge of good fabric in each hex.
What do ya'll think? Should I rip out the top & bottom edges that are already somewhat squared off & have a scalloped edge for all 4 sides? Or just have scallops on the 2 sides?
    Thanks in advance!

fabric I will use for the border

I don't know the woman who was selling the tops, but I know who she is. She owns a short order bbq place & works all the time. I would think she's in her mid to late 60s. I'm guessing she put a $20 price on this because she did treasure it and knew that only someone who would appreciate it would pay that much at a garage sale for it.

I have bought other tops at resale stores before, but this is the first one that has me excited enough to be planning to finish it in some way this quickly.
