Thank you for the directions and I love the idea of cutting to size and then quilting on the long arm. Very nice.

Here are a few construction comments:
Didn't use a pattern, although I have made the RK Cargo Duffle a couple times. Wonderful free pattern found here:
    http://www.robertkaufman.com/quiltin...argo_duffle_2/
I intended these to be reusable gift bags, they are no frills. No pockets etc. I sized the height and depth to fit the gifts :-)
they wound up 20" wide because I have a 20.5" square up ruler!
I used nice quality fabric for the backing when I quilted them, so no additional lining.
After quilting the pieces, I cut them to size, then serged all the edges, which encased the backing, batting and top fabric.
Then I just sewed the pieces together using the edge of the serged seam as a sewing guide.
I had made this style bag before when I didn't have a serger & I just bound all the raw edges by bringing the backing fabric to the front like you would bind a quilt.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.[/QUOTE]

How beautiful. The recipients must have been dazzled when they saw the bags.
