I do a lot of embroidery and love it! I put a thin white flannel on the back and embroider thru both layers. It gives it a a nice feel and also hides all those ends and carryover threads. I usually use two strains of floss because when I put so much work into my piece, I want to be sure that it can be seen from a distance. If I am working on a very small piece (or small area), I sometimes vary the threads, one in small areas and two for the most part. Have fun and enjoy!

I usally use 2 as well, but these lines on this one is so close two would be way too thick. I don't put anything on the back as sometimes to too hard to work through with my hands, having arthritis pretty bad in them, but I try and keep them moving. Thank you.
