Jaden the almost 6 Yo was having problems getting an even seam so I did the same for him and then he did much better. I let him use the 9000 b/c it had the speed control. he keeps forgetting to put the presser foot down, but other than that he does fine. we've only worked one afternoon so far. i have to cut out more squares and do some more planning, but here's what they've done so far. I think that i wil let them tie it, so that theywill do most of the work b/c I'll probably have to bind it. we'll see.
He looks like a "Born Natural" at this! Good job at teaching!

What a great idea! Good for you and them. They will remember that many years down the road when Grandma taught them to use a sewing machine and make a quilt! Jan

It is so fun to see the pleased look on their faces! Their Mom is going to just love the gift(s). Are they making one quilt--combined efforts? Or two separate? Mom will love it either way.

Great ides! You won't have to bind it if you do it the way they do it for ABC or Project Linus quilts (I think they call it "pillowcase" style).

They are making one quilt-combined effort. The hardest part will be getting them here often enough to get it finished.

Thank you all for your great comments and stay tuned to this thread as I will keep you posted on their progress W/ pictures.

What can be better than that! Two wonderful, handsome young eager boys with a mission, and they certainly are. You must be bursting with pride and love. Lucky grandma! Look forward to seeing their finished quilt.
