Great Grandmother's quilt
#24
Thank you so much for your comments. It is indeed a treasure that I cherish very much. I read some of her letters and cried when I did. She was born in Atlanta GA in 1858 prior to the Civil War. Her mother was dead by the time she was 2 yrs old. Her father would marry at least 3 more times. She walked to Texas when she was 9 yrs old. She buried one child, and her husband before she passed. In her letter she was praising God and talking about how good God is and praising His name. It just broke my heart to think of the faith this woman had and what all she had endured in her lifetime. So yes, the quilt is a treasure, something I can touch that she touched - very special indeed.

Beautiful, beautiful quilt. Love the colours and the way your Great-Gran put it together. I think she would be most pleased to see it being used, which would have been her original intention.
Many of our greats and grands had such difficult lives and yet had such enduring faith and grace. It's wonderful to keep their stories and achievements alive.
Thank you for sharing her story and your stunning heirloom.
