I make shopping bags from rummage sale pants and skirts. They are fantastic. You can spill pickle juice or ice cream and they wash like a dream. They are as tough as nails and are next to indestructible. And cheap if you get to a $5 bag sale. Room for at least 10 pr of pants, more skirts, and if you're lucky enough to find shorts, you can put in about 20 into a $5 bag

Yes...I am curious too. What a great idea and I love that you made them reflect an interest of the recipient!
    She will love them!

I've given grocery bags as bridal gifts and the couples have always really liked them and that they were able to be greener :D

    I like your pattern.

I searched using "fabric grocery bag patterns" and found a ton of links on the web.
    I used this tutorial:
    http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=177482.0

The first one came out a little shorter than I wanted. It takes a bit more fabric than I thought to do the french seam on the bottom so I cut the other 3 a little longer.

And the wonderful thing is, they can be used for lots of other things besides groceries.

I got a huge bag of upholstry remnants and have been making all shapes and sizes of tote bags, from just big enough for a wallet, cell phone and keys to giant size that can be used for clothes for weekend travel, some with pockets, some without, some lined, some not.
