Hand quilt or machine quilt first?
#1
I made this string quilt and want to hand quilt in the plain "squares." It is a queen size, so I'm going to have the rest of it machine quilted. I need your opinions...should I hand quilt then send it out? or send it out first? Does anyone have experience with this?
I'm very excited to get started on it!

When I was going to do both, I sent the quilt out and she laq quilted around the areas I was going to hand quilt and basted the same areas so they wouldn't bulge.
This is one of my favourite scrappy quilt patterns. I've made two so far :-P

I don't have any experience with hand quilting or sending a quilt out so take my opinion for what it's worth (which isn't much :D). I think I would send it out and have them do the quilting first, then do your hand quilting.
Edited to add: really love your quilt top! That's a beautiful scrappy piece!

Sounds like a good idea to me. That way you won't have to go to the trouble of basting. I'll bet the longarmer would prefer it that way too.
