    I cut each square of fabric 12.5 inches as that was the size of my square ruler! lol I then cut them in half so each side of block came out 12.5 x 6.25 odd sizes I know but it was easier for me to do it this way. I used 15 different batiks and a white tone on tone for the blocks but used a sort of 'polished' white cotton in the butterfly borders as this was a more stable fabric for the embroidery on the butterfly appliques.
