I think its not the point. You cant just compare wages. We have to pay so much for social security, unemployment insurance, have terrible high costs for healts care and also very high income taxes.
In US you pay in down town LA $8 for a yard and on a farm in Oregon also.............and most of the fabric is not even manufacutred in the US, at least I think so and cotton has a world market price.
I do not understand it..........

oh, I know what you're talking about.....the fabric prices here in Switzerland are really expensive and most of the time ,the stores are selling only some fabrics of one designer...and if they do, it's mostly fabric of a past season!! I also shop online,send my US friend for buying fabric and when spending my vacation in the US, I'll go for a quilt shop hunt.

Ouch! I would definitely look at used clothes to dissasemble for quilting when prices went that high.

Maybe you should open your own store and put them in compenetion with you. If fabric cost that much you should have a store that sells cheaper Check out Fabric places and see if you can deal with them. Kathleen

try this site. the international shipping is very reasonable. they have LQS fabric only. they have bolts, wides and regular widths. i don't think you can beat the prices. the service is excellent. i have been doing business there for several years and i'm never disappointed. you can contact them with any questions or special instructions and go out of the way to make you happy. the stock changes often especially the sale stock. be sure to check out the batiks.
