How special for you. My grandfather made one for my grandmother that I saw her quilting on. But for hers, the whole quilt was spread across and open at the same time. She had a quilting group that met at her house and they all sat around the quilt talking and quilting. It took up a large room in the basement. Fortunately it was a walkout basement with lots of windows so they had plenty of light. She loved to quilt and talk, so she spent many hours with her friends working on their "church" quilts.

Yes, my husband made one out of two wooden saw horses and square pole he brought from lumber company. He used a hand saw to cut the wooden saw horses.

Yes, I have one in my garage. The long pieces on mine are chair rail (round) with the ends squared off to fit into the notches on the uprights. I have gone to hoop quilting for lack of space to keep the frames up all the time. My hoop is like a giant embroidery hoop!

Yes My sister has my mother's and grandmother's since I have not the room, she is using them. They are sturdy and quite efficient. Takes a person back a few years huh?
