Your quilt is beautiful! My sister made a similar type quilt for my mom using my dad's Hawaiian shirts. What a great idea to get shirts for fabric at the thrift store!

Hi Cookie, no stabilizer was needed because all the fabric was 100% cotton. Just batting and backing.

Ok thanks, all the shirts I have are very slippery so I will need to use a stabilizer, any suggestions.

I LOVE that quilt! For a long while, I have been trying to think of something that would remind me of my trip to Hawaii. I think I have found it!

I have a stash of old Hawaiian shirts that my DH has worn out. That is his uniform when he isn't working - Hawaiian shirt and jeans. And he has collected so many, I went thru them and pulled out the ones he has just worn till they were holes I could not patch anymore. When I went garage sale-ing with my girlfriend, we came across a lady selling shirts for quilts left over from her Hawaiian quilts. So I told hubby I would make him a quilt out of the old ones and he is game for it. I already split the seams and took off all the buttons, so I guess that makes it a UFO or a WIP or both. I like the UFO game... I may get some quilting done this year!

My sisters brother in law recently passed away and she asked me to make a quilt from all of his hawaiian shirts. Did you have to a fusable interfacing on the shirts or did you just cut and quilt.
