I have such a hard time putting unmatched patterns or un-coordinating colors together, yet I love the scrap quilts of others. I always think I need a neutral between them to separate the conflicting patterns. How do I overcome this? I've often wondered if I put a border around each block if that would help.

These strip quilts always turn out so pretty. I have a bunch of strips waiting for me to start one.

I think the blue focus strip she used is your answer. See how it does an on-point bordering of the chaotic strings? I did a string quilt that I did border the pieces on because I felt the same way you do....but I never thought of using a focus fabric . I learn something new every day!

Nice. I like the pattern and the fabrics you've used. Can't wait to see a picture of the finished quilt.

    Thank you all!

I think that by using a focus fabric helps to coordinate a scrappy quilt for those that have problems with it. This will be my first TRUE scrappy quilt. Another trick is to use whatever fabric you pick out of a brown paper bag. Only reason that you can't use it is b/c it's the same as the previous strip/piece.
