I prefer the dark brown tonal. It grounds and anchors the quilt.

The other fabric looks too busy to me.

The roses add dimension and are more interesting.

I am making an on-point quilt for my mom using the sandy gervais pattern, Sticks & Stones.

I can't make up my mind for the setting blocks - One is a dark brown tone-on-tone, with bits of black in it. The other is a richer, but busier, brown with non-metallic gold roses etched into it.

Our camera is with my husband in the truck, so I had to use my cell phone - pictures are ok, but could not take distant shots so did a lay-out on my cutting table.

Thanks so much for your help.
IMHO the roses compete with your blocks for attention. I try to make my frames finish the quilt, not compete with it. IMHO :)

I like the roses. Also, if the white is not stitched down, I would use a pink instead of white as it stands out too much. Only my two cents worth.

Definitely the tonal, the rose pattern is too busy and distracts from your other fabrics which are very pretty.
