OK so I bought this book called Quilted Treasures, paper-piecing, applique and More. My problem is with the white square in the middle of this block. the one in my picture I ended up ripping apart I dont know how many times last night. I finally just paper pieced the outer triangles ironed it flat and appliqued the white square to the middle. I was thinking of this block when I went to bed and all night. Trying to figure out the directions. They are very vague. I thought it would be easier but when I did it like the directions my block in middle was way off and looked terrible. Any suggestions?
This is the block Im talking about. I made this one for the corner so I already attached the white triangles to the sides of the block

this is the page from the book that showes the block. I am going to applique flowers to the middle squares of these blocks

Could you list the cutting deminisions for the center along with the instructions for piecing it together with the triangles from the book? I would approach the center block like this: using the 9 patch system. Divide the patch into 9 equal squares. Build one square at a time. Looks like most of the squares are made up of flying geese and half square triangles. So the "center" white square where you would be placing your applique would be made up of 5 pieces of joined white fabric. Hope this is clear as mud. LOL

To me it looks like your white fabric is to thin and if that is the case it will do the 'twist' with every stitch and no matter what you do it won't lay flat. I have had this happen to me without doing any PP......

Sorry to hear of your troubles. Here's the way I'm seeing the block: To the center square add a strip of 3 triangles to each side. Then add the two triangles to make the corners. The next row is triangles to each side, and then the corners for the block. I do agree your white may be a bit thin. If you are working with bias on your triangles that might be part of your battle. (I've read some advise using starch.) Sometimes the first block is the hardest and the rest come easier, I hope this is the case.
