i use a straw. lol I stick it over the little metal thing the ormal spool sits on. helps me and works great!

when we don't have a cone holder handy i drop my cone into a tall, small box (a travel cup box) and set it beside the machine to hold the cone while i sew. the cone holders are neat...but a little on the spendy side. you can check them out by visiting Clotildes catalog or Nancy's notions.

I knew I'd get all the info I needed from here !!!
Oh and soooooo sorry I called it a SPOOL instead of a CONE geez,,,, because I do know its official name is a cone ! I call it all a spool of thread no matter what it is .
I just wanted to make sure if what I used didnt affect the tension but I see we can be creative lol

It's from a toilet tank repair kit that can be purchased at most hardware stores for a couple of dollars.

the cone should fit on top of a spool of thread. I had the same problem. I ended up purchasing a cone holder anyway because I couldn't wind a bobbin.

I have an empty regular plastic thread spool that I cut the one end just behind the outer rim. I set it on the machine than put the cone on it. I also have the thread tree holder.
