I sat upstairs in my sewing room for an hour trying to figure out this situation with my quilt squares. Soooooooooooo I came up with this idea. (maybe its already been thought of)...I taped a square template piece on a 8 1/2 square that has the center cut out for fussy cuts. I then drew an X to match the X on the ruler. Now I can lay this on my square and line it up with the center square, cut around ruler, and bam! I have a perfect 8 1/2 square. Pretty cool huh? The squares were suppose to be 9, but I like the 8 1/2 better. And I think I'll do a 2 1/2 sash instead of 3. I'm ripping all the sashing off the quilt I started and start over. Just the sashing part. On the one pic I know its not lined up right. I just set it on a square to show you I can see thru it and you can see what I'm talking about.

You might have already taken this into consideration, but just in case,If you cut your block down to 8 1/2 instead of 9 that is going to leave your center square bigger than the rest. Not necessarily a bad thing but it will be different than the original plan.

I never realized how DIFFERENT Quilts are to making clothes. Maybe its just a matter of the light Bulb going off in my head? I'll get it . It's just right now I feel I'm D%^&ed if I do and D*&&ed if I don't. Like all my other crafts, I'm better off doing it the FRANK SINATRA way..... LOL

I think the hardest thing I had to adjust to was the 1/4 seam. I have the ordered the 1/4 in foot for my machine because I found my reg foot that I thought was 1/4 in was actually a little bigger. I had the best ludk with a log cabin pattern, everything lined up and went together just like it was supposed too. Don't give up, it takes time. I have been quilting and not sewing clothes and I am going to try to sew a dress and I have to change back to that type of thinking. Can you go to Live Chat now?

I use my reg ft and sew right at the edge of the foot. It looked like it was 1/4th.I take it it's not? I'm saving to buy a new Kenmore and it'll have the 1/4th ft.... I gotta do the Laundry Mat thing :x
