MsSage, thanks for asking. The pattern tells you to leave an opening
for stuffing under his butt. If you leave the opening on top of his body,
near the neck, it will be covered up by his neck feathers.
Same situation with the legs and feet - if you leave the opening at the top of his leg, rather than where they suggest - your closing stitches won't
be seen. Also, I filled up the feet and legs with playground sand so that
he can stand up on his own two feet!
Picking out the fabrics for this was like chosing fabrics for a quilt -

I don't know how to put your question above my answer - but
for Maxies2 - according to the pattern he's 11x14 - so he is 11" high and 14" from his beak to the ends of his feathers
I bought the pattern at JoAnn Fabrics either when it was on sale or
with the 50% off.
