    Default Homemade Stencil

I have spent some time learning to make my own stencil. I couldn't find any helpful YT videos, so I just started ordering supplies. (BTW, templates are too thick to cut stencils!) Finally, I made a useable Palm Tree stencil. I choose a thread color that might hide my beginner skill. I love my Q16! and FMQ!
Any tips or help in this area would be very welcome.
Also, I am new to rulers. The second pic shows the first border's corner. it needs correcting, but not sure what to do. Help?

Love, love your palm and surf board stencil. On the second pic I would just take a few stitches out on the outside line so that your point hits the corner then connects with your previous line on both sides. No one will notice once it is washed and used. You are doing great..keep it up.

Looks great. We are our own biggest critics for sure. While I can free motion quilt, I struggle with getting my motifs of a consistent size and spacing. I have many stencils (store bought) and love them. What I don't love is marking my quilt though, so I sometimes draw my pattern on a thin paper (think tissue paper or Golden Threads quilting paper). You quilt on the paper then tear it off when you are done. Yes, it is work so kind of 6 of one, half a dozen of the other as far as the amount of time it takes to mark a quilt vs. tearing off the paper. What I like about it is it's easy to trace your design on paper rather than trying to figure out how to cut a template. I have used this method on many quilts to great success.

for some markings i use my Hera marker to indent the lines I want to stitch. good lighting helps to see them well.

This panel sat on the design wall waiting for inspiration. It has quilting around the shapes, and then used the spiral ruler a few places that seemed spacious. The middle border's quilting is almost invisible; I used the spiral ruler for a repeat pattern. I finished the binding by folding the backing to the front. I think I prefer the finish when folding the front to the back. It looks simple, which it was... I was anxious to start FMQing.
