I decided I was going to FMQ this top and get it done. It didn't start out well at all since I was using a new thread...went back to the old thread and thought I was cruising along, happily, until I looked at the backing...
Much to my HORROR there were several puckers, despite basting and such...I picked out what I could and started again! I hate that this has happened, but I refuse to pick it all out.
I should have known, since I have been able to avoid this for the most part so far in my quilting career!
    Oh wells, live and learn.

Oh no! Just when I made my New Year's Resolution to learn MQ :)
Hope it isn't too hard to fix. Most of it looks really great!

I had this happen to me with a Christmas quilt I made this year. I skimped and didn't use as many pins as I usually do and I paid the price. The quilt I just finished pin basting last night has TONS of pins in it because I never want to have to do all that ripping out again.
It may have been that you didn't have enough pins or basting stitches or maybe it was the batting... I had one that scooted quite a bit (I think it had more poly than cotton in it).
Once I had a quilt that was quilting perfectly (on top). I turned it over and realized that the backing had GRABBED a scrap of fabric and that piece got quilted right in with the backing. WHAT A MESS!

I've worn out two seam rippers that way! I listened to a funny book on tape and picked away! Gave a new meaning to "pickin and grinnin."
It's just part of the fun! My DH says I am n expert picker!! :D

It's happened to all of us! I just did a table topper the other day with the same thing....I didn't realize until it was all the way done. Never even though to turn it over and check...I just grinned and said, "hope they don't turn it over".

My theory is that any good quilter has probably done a lot of pickin' in her day :) ...I made sure my 10 year old GD received her very own seam ripper along with the sewing machine we gave her for Christmas :)
