If you're in a rush, you could make both sides wider using a boarder of your back ground fabric and if you don't time to applique her name on the quilt you could quilt those blank sides with some special motifs with the words hugs and kisses between them.

I agree with others, I'd make another row

I like the idea about her name down one side but I also like the idea about making it into a square for her to lie on. add a little more batting to make it thicker. my grandaughter lived on hers all day. she just loved it, now she is walking and has naps on it. then a nice border all around would finish it of nicely

Love, love, LOVE the idea of the the name down the side.

If you add another row of blocks to make it wider, it will look like a gazillion other baby quilts. Not very interesting. BORING. And why does everything have to be symmetrical?

But with her name on it - a fabulous, unique, personalized quilt.

I used 6" blocks here (and did it very quickly, sorry it's so sloppy - I'd center the name better if I had the time ;-) ), which brings it to 40x49 (assuming you were using 8" blocks).

And then just bind it and you're done.

I thought your first picture of your baby quilt was adorable but I must admit I really like your name design on the side even better.

I just got home from work and checked to see what ideas everyone had today. WOW!
MTS I LOVE your picture! That is what I was thinking but seeing it makes me feel even better about it.
I printed off some letters....A little different font but I think they will still be OK. I gotta get this going again before I run out of time.

I am meeting a fellow quilting board member tomorrow for lunch. Maybe I can have it ready to hunt for a back if we can find some quilt shops to visit.

I'll keep you posted! THANK YOU EVERYONE! I am off to "My Room" now!

What if you take the last row off--make 1 more block and add another row to the side so it is 5x5 blocks and then add the border with the name??
