If you add another row of blocks to make it wider, it will look like a gazillion other baby quilts. Not very interesting. BORING. And why does everything have to be symmetrical?

But with her name on it - a fabulous, unique, personalized quilt.

I used 6" blocks here (and did it very quickly, sorry it's so sloppy - I'd center the name better if I had the time ;-) ), which brings it to 40x49 (assuming you were using 8" blocks).

And then just bind it and you're done.
It looks great! There are a number of choices! Adding a simple white border (or alphabet letters) then the binding would also work!

Your idea to put her name down the sides is fantastic. I was going to suggest that you put wider borders on the sides than on top and bottom. Maybe you can do both.

Love the name down the side. So many ideas - but not enough time or money

I think between you and MTS, you have the situation under control. Great solution!

I agree with putting the name on the side borders and then if needed add an additional border. I always make my baby blankets a little larger so they will be used longer.

Me too! I like a play size blanket.

HERE IS THE UPDATE of Julia's quilt!

So here is what I added this afternoon. It is now 40"x48".
I am going to put a thin pink border and then a wider border of the background fabric which is white with multicolor circles. If I have enough of the fat quarters left I want to make the binding out of all the fabrics.

I am going to take it tomorrow to look for backing.
    Hope you like it!
