OK, I read the comments. I am the only one who is wondering -- what is the "birthing method"? Just writing it makes a little pain.
I like your table runner. My stash and scraps never seem to coordinate like that.

I think you did a great job. Don't be so hard on yourself.

Birthing method is when you place the right sides of the back and front together (batting on top or bottom). Then sew all round the edges, except for a couple of inches. Then turn the "quilt" right side out, poking out the edges. Hand stitch the little opening closed.

There are many other links about this if you do a search. Maybe they can explain it better.

Personally I don't see any of the things you're beating yourself up over. Your FMQ reallly isn't that awful, perhaps a little wobbly but you're just beginning and it takes practice for the lines to free moe smoothly. We drive our selves crazy expecting perfection the first time we try anything new. :D :D :D

Thanks, your explanation is just fine. I've done that method but I don't think I ever heard it called that.

The first time I did was part of a sewing class and the teacher had us press the seam open before we turned it. She said pressing made the seam lay together better after it was turned. Sometimes I press and sometimes not, and sometimes pressing helps and sometimes not.

I still like your table runner. I think you did nice work.

Ummm...free motion quilting is NOT EASY and yours looks perfectly fine. It is a lovely piece and a learning experience. Don't be so hard on yourself.
