And to think that years ago my husband's grandmother made quilts for the family from clothing as well. Seems like some things just come full circle sometimes.

The fabrics are beautiful. I can't wait to see what lovely designs you create!

The reason I've learned not to say anything - especially at garage sales - is that people seem to mind having their garments cut up.

And I would also mind if someone cut up a garment that I had made.

Sometimes it's just better to not know - - -

Exactly! I wish my dear grandmother was still alive to see my quilts, as she and her father before her were all tailors with love of fabric, although I don't remember her making quilts, but she did have a huge closet in her bedroom (she lived in Scotland and we only got up once a year) which we used to rummage through to see what I could take back to Manchester with me, usually curtaining and such like!! I have only been quilting for around 4 years (BOY ...can't believe it is that long actually)
    :D

I kind of wondered about that. I've found that some of the charity shops I've visited absolutely reek. You can just about smell them from the street. Others must launder all items prior to sale. And then there's the dreaded sweat stain on the underarms... Say no more.

Sounds like you're looking out for all those things, with good results. Good for you.

I have made several quilts from men's shirts, so I know how much work it is to wash, cut and iron all those pieces. Makes you appreciate being able to buy fabric by the yard.

Well I am quite choosy....luckily most of our charity shops seem to have good standards, out of the 4 local shops only one seems to have that 'old clothes been stored in a bag for years kind of smell...YUCK, I won't buy anything no matter how nice the fabric if it stinks...I am frugal but not that desperate LOL!!

It is more work, but I think the 'need' to build my stash outweighs the extra work LOL!
