She was having a blast with the mirrors at the lqs! we actually came home with one more fabric, and I had to stop her there before she added too much to my too do list - but there is another that she really liked, and I think I am going to go get enough to make a bed sized quilt for her birthday-- but with her only having 3 days of school left I'm not sure how I'm going to keep it secret.

You could always purchase the fabric and give it to her au naturel for her birthday .... and tell her that now it's let her make it herself!

I was thinking about that actually -- I'd definitely need to get her a seam guide -- she is 6, and working on her 1st quilt now. I think this may actually be easier for her since the seams are much smaller -- she does good for the 1st inch or 3 on a seam then starts getting really crooked. Maybe an octogon instead of a hexagon - aren't they sewn completely together - or still left in halfs.... hmm time for research

Sorry, I didn't realize she was only 6yo. Only you can judge if she's ready.

4 Patch Posey would be more realistic for her. She sews the four together and has a complete kaleido. A good "matching" project for her. Once sewn together, no pieces to lose. Later on you can determine how to join them all together re sashing or no sashing, cornerstones, etc.

That might just be perfect! It would be easy to square up when she's done, and no bias edges, and shorter seams for her to work on!
