I have been making lap throws for the local nurning home and often times I will have a few blocks left over from the quilt. I was getting tired of them just sitting around so I decided to make them into a lap throw. In some cases I had to put a little border around the block to make it the same size as the others. I think it turned out kind of nice. I haven't quilted it yet. That set me to wondering, what do you do with left over quilt blocks or maybe you all are much better than I at making just the right number for the quilt.

Very good idea!! I usually make ONE extra block(my practice one to see if I like the pattern) and then use it for the signature block on the back.

Good looking quilts. I always seem to have a few leftover blocks, usually ones that came out a little too small and you gave me a good use for them. May in Jersey

Love your idea! I always make an extra block. My plan is to put them all together in a "sampler" quilt which will be like my quilt diary. I probably have enough blocks for 2 samplers!

I always thought it would be neat to make an extra block & put them in a sampler like you did so I'd have a visual record of my quilts. Haven't done it yet but seeing how lovely yours looks I might begin... never too late. lol

If it is my design, I always make just the right number. However, I end up with scrap material from an older woman that has been into a "Kit Thing" lately. When she finishes a kit, I get all of the left over material. I have come up with many-a-beautiful creations just from what she gives me!
Whatever happens-continue with your "Ugly-Quilts". They are usually the prettiest ones!

I also like the sampler quilt!! That is a great way to "use up" odd ball blocks.
