    I like the 2nd one, and would think family pictures or applique on the borders would really set it off.

    I do like the second one. You should do as craftybear said and use a pigma pen. Practice on the white and see if it needs support. I made a quilt for our pastor for Pastor appreciation and I had to iron freezer paper on the back of the Kona cotton to make it stable for the signatures. Then I just peeled it off.
