I Almost Want To CRY! Baby Jane drama!

I cannot begin to imagine your pain at finding the fabric ripping like that. I wish there was something I could do to help you through this. My only advice is to start again, because you will be so thrilled when you see it finished, the 32 blocks will seem less important. I have nearly finished my quilt and the pain of the mistakes is receding! Good Luck

Oh nooooo....this is too bad. I feel really horrible that you have to do those blocks over. They all looked beautiful too! I think adding some stabalizer will make it work for a table topper or wall hanging.

HOW TERRIBLE!!! I would agree that a light weight fusible interfacing on the back could stabilized.
Along with others, I wonder if you got a bad batch of fabric. I have used the Joanne Kona muslin for years and have never seen a problem like this. The only time I have seen this problem is soem VERY old sheets that I use under the Christmas tree -- they shreddeed just like your pictures.

I have to be careful with the wide Kona muslin. I got one big piece and found two smallish tears in the folded areas. I was able to applique a block over it since it is the back.
I have not had tears like yours in anything but old black fabric where it simply shredded when sewn.
Note that the Kona muslin does not tear clean across. I was merrily tearing to get a straight edge and almost at the end it decided to change direction (could have been a weaker place in the fabric.)

Oh no! I'm so so sorry this happened to you.. I wonder if you put a stabilizer on the back if it would help in these blocks.
I would go to Joanne and complain. I'm with the poster who said "cold, steely anger" That should work - and they should accept the fabric and replace it.
What you can do, instead of getting rid of the blocks you've made already is to turn them into a gorgeous wall hanging (one that won't be washed so often) and put it up over your bed - so when your Baby Jane is done, there's something matching.
