Nope, I had it stored in a x-large ziploc bag in a drawer in my sewing room. The frays on the fabric were from me tearing it in disbelief! Joann's is an hour away so I'm not sure when I'm going to get there to return this....but I'll let you all know how I make out there. I have never seen anything like this except in old brittle sheets like QuiltnLady1 had mentioned.

Thank you again everyone for your kind words of support....I'm coming to grips with it....I'll suck it up and move on....make lemonade out of the lemons! It's a lesson learned...test your fabric on block 1 not 32! ;)

I would go to Joanne and complain. I'm with the poster who said "cold, steely anger" That should work - and they should accept the fabric and replace it.

What you can do, instead of getting rid of the blocks you've made already is to turn them into a gorgeous wall hanging (one that won't be washed so often) and put it up over your bed - so when your Baby Jane is done, there's something matching.
    That's a great idea!

Find out who the maker is, most of the time when you buy any material that you use to make something the maker of that material replaces it at cost of the price you paid plus the whatever money has been wasted along with it.

Can you try ironing on a lightweight fusible interfacing on the back and perhaps salvage these blocks.

i had a horrible experience with JoAnn's batting. it was some off of a roll many years back. Two washings and the batting was gone. No signs of bearding, and it must have just disolved

That is just horrible! I bought a bolt of muslin for my DJ, not at Joannes, and it is fine. I used it for a backing also. I like Jennifer's idea for a wall hanging to match your quilt.

Go get Joannes! They should be held accountable!!!!

Oh I feel so badly for you! I cannot even begin to imagine how you felt at the time you discovered this. I have bought Kona Muslin from Jo Ann's for 2-3 yrs and use it all of the time with no problems. None at all. I would say you must have gotten a defective piece! Def take it back and show them. I piece with it, applique with it, & my DH LA's while using the muslin as backing. I love it. So sorry this has happened.

    Huge Hugs
