I just took a class in Raw edge applique

Raw edge applique is where you cut out your pattern without turning under the edges. The "Raw edge" shows. In the class we were shown how to use a small strip of fusible around the edge where you cut and the you sewed with the buttonhole stitch around the object.

ahhh I will have to try the buttonhole stitch. I have used satin and zigzag. I will test that out next! Thanks for the information... I did go to her site and I belong to the AQS but could not get her video to show.. not sure if it is an older one and you have to purchase it now or whether the site is giving me trouble! I would of liked to have seen the video!

Sue Nickels gave a lecture in our area last night hosted by our Bernina dealer. There was no class offered, but she did indeed show both the machine quilting process and raw edge applique process in good detail.
I bought both of her books which she signed. We also each got what is called a "Snap Sack" which is a pattern and all fabric including backing for a miniature quilt, and a embroidery CD with monograms on it. I learned so much! I have done applique like Marsye shows with a satin stitch, but this is done with a very small blanket stitch. The machine is set at about 2.0 and 1.9 length and width. I can hardly wait to try it. With the steam a seam light around the edge which "seals" the edge down and the small stitch, you would never know that it is raw edge and Ms. Nickels says there are never any raw edges showing.
