This is the layout for the accompanying baby quilt. It is almost done, but I am stuck as to what to put between the houses horizontally. It needs to be 5 1/4" unfinished so that I don't have to make the quilt smaller.

My daughter suggested brown, but that seems to be too much brown. It is too much of any color, except off white, but is that boring?

If I could find directions for 5 1/4" pinwheels, I might make those for this sashing, but I am frustrated at this point.

    Your opinions will be welcome!

    Thanks!

    Wendy,
I like your pinwheels idea. Make them in different shades of green. They can represent grass blowing in the winds!
Be sure to share your final decision!

I like the quilt. I think the idea of the pinwheels is a good one. I think pinwheels in a baby quilt are sweet.

How about those darling hearts that you put in the corners of the big quilt. A row of 3 or 4 little hearts between the houses would be cute and tie it all together. Can you tell I love hearts! Sara

Another thought would be to applique some flowers on those horizontal pieces.

My first thought is to use transfer patterns (iron on possibly) of personalization. Name, Date of birth, weight, parents etc. I used them to make an heirloom quilt with pictures of my family for my mother in law for her 80th birthday and it looked wonderful.
