I think those who think it girly (your DH and some on this board) are reading that busy circle print (which I like!) as "flowery". I think to some people prints of any kind are girly. (Stripes, on the other hand, are masculine). Not suggesting you do this, but I'm guessing that if this quilt in these colors were all solids, no one would declare it girly.

Whatever the decision on its gender identification, it's a beautiful quilt!

Make dark brown pillowcases & have the quilting done in brown thread or variegated running into brown. The quilt is beautiful. Someday, that grandson will entertain a young woman in his home and that quilt will make an impression on the woman who recognizes that this guy has an excellent sense of values and decor! The quilt's not feminine but is stylish as modern/classic.

I don't think it's too girlie, but if I remember boys' dorm rooms, I would not want one of my handmade quilts anywhere near them! Most college guys aren't interested in coordinating their bedding with pillowcases, or want anything to "brighten up" the room. I think I might make a dark blue fleece throw and save the quilt for graduation when he gets his own place.

I don't see it as either female or male. It's a nice composition of colors and pattern.

You have a two choices; ask the grandmother or ask the dgs. Don't stress over it. If she gave you no color preferences, she gave you free reign. My dh from time to time, gives me his opinion. Sometimes I ignore it, other times I prefer to think he's thinking from his butt. Unless asked, I'm not seeking his opinion.

My son painted his living room these colours when he moved into his first home aged 21 so I think the quilt will be manly enough.
