It is a very beautiful quilt, thank you so much for sharing. What type of ribbon border are you considering the curling ribbon? I found this link with several borders that you might consider. I kinda like the prairie points as they seem to close the quilt but don't complicate.

Your color sense is incredible. Excellent work. How about more white for the border, say 4 to 5 inches and then bind it with scrappy strips of whatever colors you have left. If you are up to it, repeating the flying geese border all the way around would be heavenly. Also, you could try a Tide Stain Stick on the spot.

I think I would add about 2-3" of white fabric first, then maybe make a scalloped effect, kind of like piano keys but varying the amount of white in each key. I would wash the quilt in Synthrapol to get out any stray dye, and then Retayne to set the colors permanently.
