I'm no artist, just a quilter

I did something similar but did random dinos and filled in with meandering. I like your idea better. I presume you quilted it from from the back? Following lines was how I learned FMQing! Yours is adorable.

nobody is "just a quilter"...it all takes artistic ability - from selecting fabric (understanding color and texture) to selecting stitches (stitching dinosaurs to satisfy a small boy's interest), etc. You may have more to learn, but you're never "just a quilter"!

Your post title hit me - I have six younger brothers (I'm the oldest and only girl!) and two of them are very accomplished artists in several areas (paint, pencil, sculpt, and mixed media). I made all their clothes when growing up and made them kid quilts. I always felt this was just what I did, but nothing special. I made the oldest (the super artist) a blue log cabin queen size when he was moving out and when I gave it to him, he started to cry. He said how beautiful it was and how amazed he was that I could take flat old fabric and make something so special, whether it was clothing or quilts. This stopped me cold and completely changed how I looked at my work. We are artists, we do create, we need to see this for ourselves and give ourselves the pat on the back. we don't usually make mistakes, we are adding design elements!
