Thanks for your comments. It will take me awhile to get the squares done that need embroidered and then to get other onto some muslin. I am excited about doing it so I will let you see my progress. This is my first experience at quilting. I do sew, crochet, have commericial embroidery machines, and do crafty things with the grandkids.

your butterflies look alot like the ones found in my great-grandmothers house after she passed in 1976..I divided all the butterfly blocks and made 5 smaller quilts to share them with other family members. I was not sure of the time period they were made. Here is a picture of mine.

Donna, I think this is the same pattern or at least VERY close to it. My sister told me it was from the 1930's and in a quilting magazine I found an article about the butterfly design from the 1930's. I have not finished the pieces that I have yet but I am going to keep it for me. My brother is in a nursing home and my sister does not want it so I going to be selfish. What a great design don't you think? and I bet your quilts are really special for your family. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice and a great keepsake! It looks as though both butterfly appliques are the same, so thinking could be from the same era! So nice :)

I had enough butterfly blocks to make 5 little quilts..both my daughters got one, my mother, sister and I..everyone really seemed to like them. I done a photo transfer of my great grandmother for the center block..I have mine hung in my sewing room.
