Lucky you, for the machine and the husband. Is it a black one someone has redone in pink? So cute.

Yes, it was originally black. It was stripped and repainted. I have seen them restored and painted in several colors: red, purple, green, blue and pink. There is currently a silver one up for auction on eBay.

I think I would be turned off by the silver one, for this reason. Much of the time when something is painted silver the silver tends to rub off on to other things. I would be afraid that the paint would rub off onto my fabric or garment when sewing , as it went over the plate and extension table. But maybe not. It always seems to me when I have dealt with silver paint in past years that it just doesn't seem to really dry like other paint does.

I don't really care for the silver color. And I didn't think about the paint possibly rubbing off. Hmmm....I wonder if that has ever been an issue before. I know he uses high quality auto paint, so maybe it won't be a problem.

I have to agree with Kitsapquilter, I didn't know they made Featherweights in any color but black. Your hubby definately is a keeper. How thoughtful and loving of him to get this machine for you. Enjoy!

I just bought my first Featherweight a couple weeks ago. It was "born" in 1955. If you Google Singer Featherweight you can put the serial number down and find out the date your machine rolled off the assembly line.
